Ohio Family Law Representation
Gavvl Law offers two ways to be represented in an Ohio family law matter: full representation, where an attorney manages your entire case from start to finish, and limited-scope (flat-fee) representation, where you hire us for specific tasks. Choosing the right level keeps quality help within reach while matching the cost to the complexity of your case.
Full Representation
With full representation, your attorney handles the entire case from the first consultation through final orders. It includes complete case management, legal strategy, all filings and document preparation, every court appearance (hearings and trial), and negotiation and settlement work. You have ongoing access to your attorney throughout.
Best for: complex or contested cases, high-conflict situations, and any matter that may require trial preparation. Full representation is billed as a retainer plus hourly fees.
Limited-Scope (Flat-Fee) Representation
With limited-scope representation, you hire us for specific tasks at a flat fee per service. It can include document drafting and filing, limited court appearances for specific hearings, legal advice and consultation, and document review. Communication is focused on the task you have engaged us for.
Best for: uncontested matters, simple modifications, and clients on a tight budget. Limited scope is not recommended for complex or high-conflict cases that need ongoing advocacy.
How to Choose
If issues like custody, property, or support are contested — or the other party has a lawyer — full representation gives you the comprehensive support and courtroom advocacy those cases demand. If your matter is straightforward and largely agreed, limited-scope flat-fee service can keep your costs predictable and low. Not sure which fits? Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between full representation and limited scope?

Limited-scope representation means you hire us for specific tasks at a flat fee per service, such as document drafting, filing, or a particular hearing.
- Which option is right for my case?
- Full representation is best for complex, contested, or high-conflict cases and anything that may require trial. Limited-scope flat-fee service is best for uncontested matters, simple modifications, and tight budgets, but is not recommended for complex cases.
- Can I switch from limited scope to full representation later?
- In many situations yes. If a matter that started simple becomes contested, we can discuss moving to full representation. Get started or take our Find My Service quiz and we will recommend the right level for your situation.
