A custody battle can consume your entire life — I know because it consumed mine. It’s why I went to law school, and why we built Gavvl Law. So no one has to face that fight without compassion, tenacity, and someone who’s been there.

Two ways to work with an Ohio family law attorney.
Not every family law case needs a $10,000 retainer. Some do. We offer both options — and we tell you which one your situation actually calls for during the first conversation.
We handle a part of your case. You handle the rest.
Also called unbundled legal services. You hire an attorney for specific tasks — drafting documents, reviewing agreements, representing you at one hearing — without paying for full case management. You stay in control of the overall process while getting professional help where it matters most.
What are you going through?
Pick what is closest. We will show you what to expect — no form, no email, no commitment.
I need to end my marraige.
Divorce, dissolution, or legal separation in Ohio
What's happening
You're considering ending your marriage, or your spouse already filed. Ohio offers two main paths: dissolution (both spouses agree on terms before filing) and divorce (the court decides what you can't agree on). There's also legal separation if you're not ready for a final split.
What we do about it
We figure out which path fits your situation. For dissolutions, we draft the separation agreement, parenting plan, and all court filings — flat fee, quoted up front. For contested divorces, we represent you through discovery, negotiation, mediation, and trial if needed.
Your first step
Book a $25 consultation. In 30 minutes, a Gavvl divorce attorney will tell you which path you're looking at, what it will cost, and how long it will take.
I need to figure out custody
Parenting plans, modifications, and shared parenting
What's happening
You need to establish, modify, or enforce a custody arrangement in Ohio. This could be part of a divorce, or a standalone case if you were never married. Ohio uses the term 'shared parenting' rather than 'joint custody' — the distinction matters legally.
What we do about it
We draft or negotiate parenting plans that reflect your child's best interests and your family's reality. If you're modifying an existing order, we build the case for changed circumstances. We represent parents, grandparents, and unmarried partners across all 88 counties.
Your first step
Schedule a consultation. Bring any existing court orders or agreements. A Gavvl attorney will discuss your options and suggest next steps clearly.
I need help with child support
Calculating, modifying, or enforcing support orders
What's happening
You need to establish a child support order, modify an existing one because circumstances changed, or enforce an order that isn't being followed. Ohio uses a specific formula to calculate support - based on both parents' annual income - but deviations are common and the calculation has nuances that can be confusing.
What we do about it
We run the Ohio child support worksheet with accurate income figures, argue for appropriate deviations, and handle modifications when jobs change or children's needs evolve. We also pursue enforcement when the other parent isn't paying.
Your first step
Schedule a consultation and we'll discuss your situation so you know what to expect, what's possible, and how we can help before you move forward.
I want to protect my family's future
Wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives
What's happening
You need legal documents that protect your family if something happens to you. Maybe you have young children and need to name a guardian. Maybe you have assets you want to pass on without probate. Maybe you just want someone you trust making medical decisions if you can't.
What we do about it
We offer flat-fee estate planning packages: basic will plus powers of attorney plus healthcare directive, or comprehensive packages with revocable trusts. Two appointments — one to discuss your situation, one to sign. No white-shoe firm pricing.
Your first step
Schedule a consultation. We'll ask about your family, your assets, and your wishes — then quote a flat fee for exactly the documents you need.
I want to adopt or expand my family
Stepparent and kinship adoptions
What's happening
You're looking to legally adopt a child in Ohio — whether that's a stepchild or adopt a relative's child. Ohio adoption law involves consent requirements, home studies, background checks, and finalization hearings in probate court.
What we do about it
We guide you through every stage: filing the petition, navigating consent or termination of parental rights, coordinating with agencies and home study providers, and representing you at the finalization hearing. We handle adoptions across all 88 Ohio counties.
Your first step
Call us and describe your situation. Adoption timelines and costs vary significantly depending on the type — we'll give you a realistic picture on the first call.

What Ohio families ask us.
An uncontested dissolution in Ohio typically runs $1,500 to $3,500 in flat attorney fees plus $300 to $400 in court filing fees. A contested divorce runs $4,000 to $20,000+ depending on assets, custody disputes, and how long it takes. We quote your case in writing on the first call so you know before you commit.
Dissolution is no-fault and requires both spouses to agree on everything — assets, debts, custody, support — before filing. It's faster (30–90 days) and cheaper. Divorce is filed when spouses disagree and need a court to decide. It's slower (6–18 months) and more expensive. Most of our cases are dissolutions because we help couples agree before we file.
Yes — at least one spouse must have been an Ohio resident for at least 6 months before filing, and a resident of the filing county for at least 90 days. There are limited exceptions for military and certain custody situations.
Dissolutions are typically 30–90 days from filing to final decree. Uncontested divorces, 90–180 days. Contested divorces, 6–18 months or longer depending on complexity. We give you a realistic timeline on the first call.
For most dissolutions, one short hearing — often by video. For contested matters, more. We handle most of our cases remotely; you only show up when Ohio law requires it.
Yes. We serve all 88 Ohio counties. Most of our clients work with us entirely by video and phone — same attorneys, same flat-fee pricing, same process — from wherever they live in Ohio.
