Why Erie County is different

Two courts by marital status

Married spouses and married parents file divorce, dissolution, and related custody in the General Division (Domestic Relations) on the 2nd floor at 323 Columbus Avenue. Never-married parents file paternity, custody, parenting time, and support in the separate Erie County Juvenile Court on the 4th floor of the same building. A parenting class isn't automatic anymore

Erie's 2025 Domestic Relations Local Rules removed the parenting seminar as a general requirement. A judge or magistrate now orders it only when the court decides it's needed in your specific case, and the order will say who pays and how to file the certificate.
