Filing for Dissolution in Lorain County, Ohio
Lorain County has a three-judge Domestic Relations Court in Elyria with a Virtual Self-Help Center, Zoom hearings, online and phone payments (through nCourt), and Spanish-language interpreter services. Two Lorain-specific traps to avoid: (1) Local Rule 8 — the Clerk will REJECT your filing if you don't include a 'Notice of Parenting Seminar' form for each parent, and both parents must complete the seminar within 45 days of filing or your case stalls; and (2) if you're requesting a fee waiver, drop your forms off with the Assignment Commissioners on the 2nd floor BEFORE filing with the Clerk's office. Filing fees ($280 without children, $380 with) are deposits — any leftover balance is refunded at least 30 days after the case closes.
